Plant structure as a determinant of coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) seed and straw yield

2020

Abstract Coriander (Coriandrum sativum L., Apiaceae) is a Mediterranean aromatic plant that is mainly cultivated for its fruits. Understanding the association between various vegetative and reproductive structures as they pertain to yield can help addressing efforts for achieving the highest productivity levels, by improving both cropping techniques and breeding. Multiple Regression (MR) analysis is a suitable tool to understand this association; notwithstanding, due to the plant’s inherent “weedy” growth, the interpretation of MR results in coriander is often difficult. Therefore, in our analysis we also calculated additional indicators of variable contribution to the model and to one anot…

Body mass index as a determinant of clozapine plasma concentrations: A pharmacokinetic-based hypothesis

2021

Background: Knowledge regarding the impact of body composition measures on pharmacokinetics of antipsychotics is limited. Aims: Our aim was to investigate the impact of body weight and body mass index on clozapine pharmacokinetics using a therapeutic drug monitoring database. Methods: A large therapeutic drug monitoring dataset of clozapine plasma concentrations considering three patient subgroups was analysed: a control group (CLZ0, 20–30 kg/m2, n=266), a group with high body mass index (CLZhigh, body mass index ⩾30 kg/m2, n=162) and with low body mass index values (CLZlow, body mass index <20 kg/m2, n=27). Comparisons of plasma and dose-adjusted plasma concentrations (C/D) of clozapine…

Association between intake of nutrients and food groups and liking for fat (The Nutrinet-Santé Study)

2014

Apart from the established association between liking for fat and fat intake, little is known about the association between liking for fat and intake of specific nutrients or food groups. We investigated the association between dietary intake and liking for fat, fat-and-sweet and fat-and-salt. Liking scores were constructed using a validated preference questionnaire administered to 41,595 French adults participating in the Nutrinet-Santé study. Dietary data were collected using web-based 24 h records. Relationships between liking and dietary intake were assessed using linear regression adjusted for age and energy intake. Results are expressed in percentage difference of intake between indiv…

Mepanipyrim haptens and antibodies with nanomolar affinity

2013

Mepanipyrim is an anilinopyrimidine fungicide used worldwide for crop protection. With the aim of developing useful immunoreagents for mepanipyrim immunoanalysis, two new functionalized derivatives were prepared and antibodies were generated. Affinity and specificity were assessed by direct and indirect competitive ELISA using homologous and heterologous conjugates. Although all antibodies were selective for the target analyte, the immunizing hapten structure was revealed as a determinant for high-affinity antibody production (IC50 = 3 nM). © 2013 The Royal Society of Chemistry.

Transition metal derivatives of low oxidation state phosphorus oxoacids: synthetic pathways and structural studies

1993

Abstract A general synthetic approach intended to rationalize the solution preparative chemistry of transition metal phosphites and hypophosphites is presented. As previously shown for other derivatives containing also tetrahedral or pseudotetrahedral oxoanions, the hydrolytic processes affecting the cationic moieties play a determinant role on the very nature of the final solid. In fact, despite the limited number of donor atoms in the anions, the crystal chemistry of these compounds is quite intricate because of both the variety of possible cationic aggregates and the many ways to interconnect them through pseudotetrahedral anionic groups.

On lacunary Toeplitz determinants

2014

By using Riemann--Hilbert problem based techniques, we obtain the asymptotic expansion of lacunary Toeplitz determinants $\det_N\big[ c_{\ell_a-m_b}[f] \big]$ generated by holomorhpic symbols, where $\ell_a=a$ (resp. $m_b=b$) except for a finite subset of indices $a=h_1,\dots, h_n$ (resp. $b=t_1,\dots, t_r$). In addition to the usual Szeg\"{o} asymptotics, our answer involves a determinant of size $n+r$.

Rational solutions to the KPI equation from particular polynomials

2022

Abstract We construct solutions to the Kadomtsev–Petviashvili equation (KPI) from particular polynomials. We obtain rational solutions written as a second spatial derivative of a logarithm of a determinant of order n . We obtain with this method an infinite hierarchy of rational solutions to the KPI equation. We give explicitly the expressions of these solutions for the first five orders.

Innovativeness as a determinant of entrepreneurial orientation: analysis of the hotel sector

2019

This paper analyses entrepreneurial orientation as a composite formed of innovation, proactiveness and risk-taking. The empirical data for this study were gathered from a survey sent to hotel managers. The fieldwork was carried out between January and June 2018. The process provided 102 valid questionnaires. Two methods were used: structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) and fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA). This study makes six key contributions and findings. First, the use of these two methods provides robust and reliable results. Second, reliability and validity values for innovativeness, proactiveness and risk-taking are satisfactory. Third, the operationalisation of en…

Enjoyment in the Foreign Language Classroom: Does Gender Matter? A Review of Selected Empirical Studies

2021

The present contribution offers an overview of a new research avenue in the field of second language acquisition (SLA) which began to flourish with the advent of Positive Psychology (PP). The study presents the findings of selected empirical studies on foreign language enjoyment (FLE) conducted in various countries, among foreign language (FL) learners at different ages, and at different proficiency levels. As there is a relatively small body of literature that directly concerns gender differences in FLE, the main aim of the present study is to fill the existing research gap in the field. One of the most significant findings to emerge from this study is that the relationship between FLE and…

Safety Climates in Construction Industry: Understanding the Role of Construction Sites and Workgroups

2013

Studies of safety climate in construction revealed a significant positive association between safety climate and various aspects of occupational health and safety. The mechanisms through which this impact operates are still unclear and safety climate is usually studied without considering the complexity of this industry (companies, worksites and groups). The aim of this research is to analyze to what extend there are differences between construction sites and to explore the relations between construction sites’ safety climate and workers’ safety response and to examine how this influence occur considering the workgroups. The safety climate was evaluated using a reduced version of the questi…
